CHAPTER 1 WEEK 3

 Chapter 1 Week 3

Information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) are computer-based tools that support data processing and collect, process, store, analyse, and disseminate information for specific purposes. Studying IT is important as you are the most connected generation in history, practising continuous computing and surrounded by a personal, movable digital network. IT offers career opportunities, such as IT project managers, business analysts, digital marketing managers, mobile app developers, and JavaScript developers.

Managing information systems is a complex task, as IT resources are expensive to acquire, operate, and maintain. IT departments must collaborate to manage information resources, which are located throughout the organisation. Information systems include Functional Area Information Systems (FAISs), which monitor, collect, store, and process data from basic transactions, Interorganizational Information Systems (IOS), Office Automation Systems (OASs), FAISs, Business Intelligence (BI) systems, Expert systems (ESs), and dashboards.

IT impacts organisations in various ways, including reducing middle managers, changing managers' jobs, reducing job stress and ergonomic issues, and improving healthcare. IT systems are used in accounting and finance, marketing, production/operations management, and human resources management. MIS provides information and IT support to other functional areas, making IT a vital part of modern business operations.
